Privacy Policy

Hannun collects no information about you. Only the free Mac version from our website goes online — to check for updates — and you can turn that off in Settings.

Effective date: October 1, 2026

Hannun collects no information about you.

What we do not collect

  • Personal information — no names, emails, phone numbers, or addresses
  • Accounts — there is no sign-up or sign-in
  • Usage data — no analytics, no telemetry, no crash-reporting tools
  • Advertising identifiers — we show no ads and perform no tracking

Your documents never leave your device

Hannun reads and writes the Markdown, text, data, and PDF files you open entirely on your device. Neither the contents, nor the file names, nor the fact that you opened them is transmitted to the developer, and the developer has no way to learn any of it.

What is stored on your device

The following is kept only in the app's storage on your device because the app needs it to work. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and deleting the app removes all of it.

Item Contents
Settings Theme, fonts, content width, language
Session Open tabs, scroll positions, view modes
Scratch documents · files being edited Automatic backup of writing and edits not yet saved
Recent documents Recently opened files and the access needed to reopen them
Folder access Scope you granted so images in a document's folder can display

Because the developer holds no user data, there is nothing to request deletion of. To remove the items stored on your device, delete the app.

Hannun does not sync through iCloud on its own. When you open a file stored in iCloud Drive, the operating system handles the download.

Network

Opening, reading, and editing documents never uses the internet. Math, diagrams, and fonts are bundled with the app. The document preview blocks outside access, so even remote images referenced by a document are not loaded.

The Mac version downloaded from the web contacts an update feed (putchamoe.com/hannun-releases/appcast.xml) to check for new versions.

  • The server receives only ordinary web request information — a request header with the app name and version and the macOS version, and the IP address used for the connection. No documents or device information are sent
  • The update feed is hosted on GitHub Pages and the update files on GitHub Releases. Access logs are handled under GitHub's privacy statement
  • Turning off Settings › General › Automatically check for updates stops the app from connecting on its own

The App Store version leaves updates to the operating system and opens no connections on its own. Its network entitlement is required by the system component (WebKit) that draws the preview.

Crash reports

If you turn on "Share with App Developers" in your device settings, Apple may forward crash reports to the developer. This is an operating-system feature; Hannun collects nothing itself.

Opening a link in a document hands the address to your default web browser. Those sites are governed by their own privacy policies; Hannun is not involved.

Children

Hannun is not directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
